Procrastination Is My Middle Name

Procrastination is my middle name and it is way past time to change that.

At home it is five minutes at my computer before I do <insert task, chore, anything that needs to be done here> and next thing I know it is 10:00pm and I should be in bed. But I have successfully avoid the task that I was supposed to do.  Damn it, I'll do it tomorrow ... after I check my e-mail, facebook and twitter and I should probably check here for comments (even though I get e-mail notifications) and something interesting may have happened on twitter or facebook while I was doing that.

At work it is a quick break from whatever task is melting my brain to organize a pile of papers into proper files and next thing I know the office looks like something has exploded in it because I have decided to organize while taking a break from the brain melting task.  Organizing which no doubt involves making piles of things that I don't want to deal with at the moment and will procrastinate finishing until some day when I am procrastinating doing something else.

(Right about now, I hope my boss doesn't read my blog!  Although, if you are reading, I assure you that all the really important, time sensitive stuff gets done on time.  Usually, I think!)

So, please people, I need some suggestions, what is a better middle name for me to adopt?  Procrastination just isn't working for me anymore.  It is bad enough that I procrastinate when it comes to things that I don't like doing or that cause my brain to melt, but when it comes to doing things that I like, that's a sign that it is getting a little out of hand.

I should go start making Christmas cards . . . but I think I will go get a drink first and then check Facebook and Twitter.  By then it will be too late to be bothered starting.  Maybe tomorrow would be a good time to start.  Or next week?  I still have a month before they have to be in the mail . . .

Multi-tasking or Procrastinating????

So, I had, like 5 million things on my to do list this weekend, now, I did manage to get a few things done, I would estimate that I now have about 4,999,987 things on my list.  But hey, that's better than having 5,000, 027!  Anyway, while I was busily trying to watch the munchkin and do some of the many things on my list, I found myself constantly being pulled, as if by some kind of force, maybe magnetic, to my laptop to check in on my favorite things - Facebook, Twitter, and of course, the many blogs that I follow.

This got me to thinking, aside from the fact that there is some kind of force pulling to these things, and resisting the force might just cause the world to end, it might not, I'm just saying it is one of those things that I just can't risk, I mean, seriously, what if I didn't get on Facebook and check my friends status updates and the world did end, I would have to spend the rest of my life feeling guilty that I cause the world to end.  Would you take that risk?  I don't think so!  Anyway, as I was saying, assuming that there is nothing forcing me to check Facebook 17 time per hour, why do I do it??  Is it procrastination, just a tactic to keep me away from the millions of items on my to do list?  Or am I just and incredible multi-tasker?

I can watch the munchkin, check Facebook, Twitter and a few blogs, unload the dishwasher, file months worth of old bills and fold laundry all at the same time.  I think that makes me the world's best Multi-Tasker . . . I would win gold if they had an olympic multi-tasking competition.  Never mind that the munchkin was in his exercauser and couldn't go anywhere or get into trouble, the dishwasher was open and half unloaded as I played Farmville on Facebook, blogs are still unread, laundry still isn't put away and there is still a pile of old bills on my desk.  You don't really have to finish all of the tasks for it to be considered multi-tasking, do you?  The dishwasher eventually got unloaded.  And I let the munchkin out of the exercauser to play a little later on . . .  doesn't that count for something?

I will never admit that I am procrastinating . . . I am a world class multitasker.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!

AGH! He's crawling!!!!

Now, it really shouldn't be a surprise, he's 10 months after all, Liam has started crawling! He just started on really being able to move on Thursday evening, and already his favorite thing to do is crawl to the bookshelf that houses all of our DVDs and start pulling them off the shelves. And in the kitchen he has discovered the metal ice bucket on the bottom of the baker's rack. He hasn't figured out how to get it off the shelf yet, but he has figured out that it makes a cool noise if you bang it with something! And when you are 10 months old, noise it good!

Now comes the task of baby proofing . . . I really don't know why I haven't already done it. I knew this day was coming and it would have made so much more sense to do it in anticipation of this day. But no, that's not how I work. I have procrastinated yet again and now I have to spend my spare time this week moving things, putting latches on cupboard doors and crawling around the house on my hands and knees looking for things that might not see walking around like a normal person.
