Manic Monday Music Moment # 4

I am just getting worse and worse about doing these posts!

Today's however was inspired by the rainy weather.  I tend to feel a little down on rainy days . . . not to mention stressed, as it is hard not being able to take the children outside to run around and burn off some of their excess energy, but Luke Bryan has given me a new perspective on rain with his most recent single, Rain Is A Good Thing.  The fact that I am a whiskey drinker has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with my liking this song!  Nor does the fact that Luke Bryan is kind of a cutie!  That's just an added bonus!

Luke is still a fairly new face in the country music scene, but he's got a couple of other fun songs, "All My Friends Say" and "We Rode in Trucks" are two that instantly come to mind.  And just last week, he won Breakthrough Video of the Year at the CMT awards!

My daddy spent his life lookin' up at the sky
He'd cuss, kick the dust, sayin' son it's way too dry
It clouds up in the city, the weather man complains
But where I come from, rain is a good thing

Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing

Ain't nothin' like a kiss out back in the barn
Wringin' out our soakin' clothes, ridin' out a thunderstorm
When tin roof gets to talkin'; that's the best love we made
Yea where I come from, rain is a good thing

Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing

Farmer Johnson does a little dance
Creeks on the rise, roll up your pants
Country girls, they wanna cuddle
Kids out playin' in a big mud puddle

Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing

Rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing

Manic Monday Music Moment #3

Well, I totally dropped the ball on doing this as a weekly post!  Oopps!  Anyway, I am back at it and ready to go!

The song that hit me this week was Miranda Lambert's new single, "The House That Built Me".  It really made me think of my childhood home.  There are so many memories in that house and yard, some good, some bad, some happy and some sad.  And like the song, my parents build the house themselves.  The only difference is that my parents still live there.  I can and do relive many of the memories and special moments every time I visit.  I don't expect my parents to leave their home any time . . . well, ever, but if they ever do decide that it is time to move on, there will be a lot of sadness as we leave those memories and special places behind.

I know they say you can’t go home again
I just had to come back one last time
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam
But these handprints on the front steps are mine

Up those stairs in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar
I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

Mama cut out pictures of houses for years
From Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
Nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

If you aren't familiar with Miranda's music, I really encourage you to check it out.  I have loved her since the moment I heard her first single, Kerosene.  She is a rocking country girl.  And despite having released 3 albums with 10 singles, she just recently had her first number 1 hit with White Liar.  She is one of my favorite female country singers, but she seems to sometimes get lost in the shadows of some of the other overrated, not so country girls in the industry.  (I won't mention any names right now, but let's just say that I think a certain someone should just run away with her hockey player and never come back!  But that's just my opinion!)  I just hope that Miranda keeps write and singing with the same passion and attitude that she has shown so far in her career!

Manic Monday Music Moment #2

Lady Antebellum released a new album, "Need You Now" this past week.  Although I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album yet, I absolutely love the single, "Need You Now".  Not sure what it is about this song that gets me, but it gets me every time I hear it.

Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor..
Reaching for the phone, cause i cant fight it anymore..

Ad i wonder if I ever cross your mind, for me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one and I'm all alone and i need you now,
Said i wouldn't call but i lost all control and i need you now ,
And i don't know how, i can do without, i just need you now

Another shot of whiskey, can't stop looking at the door, wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before,

and i wonder if I ever crossed your mind,
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one and i'm a little drunk and i need you now,
Said i wouldn't call but I lost all control and i need you now,
And i don't know how i can do without, i just need you now,

Woh ooo woh

Yes i would rather hurt then feel nothing at all,

it's a quarter after one, im alone and i need you now,

and i said i wouldn't call but I'm a little drunk and i need you now
And i don't know how i can do without, i just need you now,

I just need you now........
Oh baby i need you now......

This single aside, I really do enjoy Lady A's music and I have since the first time I heard them, which was at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville in 2007.  They played the Riverfront Stage.  Nobody, and I mean NOBODY knew who they were.  I remember the murmurs that went through the crowd . . . "Who are they?"  "Lady what?"  "Have you ever  heard of them?"  And then they started to play the song that would become their first single, Love Don't Live Here Anymore.  I think that there were a lot of people, like me who were instantly hooked on their unique sound.

What really amazes me about Lady A, is how quickly they went from nobody's to the talk of the industry.  Just one year later at the 2008 CMA Music Fest, I was again able to see them play.  But this time, they were on the big stage at LP field and EVERBODY knew who they were.  The crowd broke out in cheers and applause when they took the stage and sang along instead of the whispers and question of the year before.

And last night, they won the Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "I Run To You."

Way to go Lady A!!  Can't wait to see what's in store for you in the future has in store for you!!

Manic Monday Music Moment # 1

The song that hit me today is "Sounds Like Life" by Darryl Worley.  I have heard this some on the radio a number of times and it gets me every time.  Check out his website if you want to take a listen, if not, just take a moment to read the lyrics.  There are many days when I think my life or at least parts of it are pretty bad.  But this is one song that when I hear it, reminds me that my life isn't that bed, it's just, well, life!  So, next time you think that your life is horrible, remember these words from the chorus . . .

Sounds like life to me, plain old destiny
Yeah, the only thing for certain is uncertainty
You gotta hold on tight, just enjoy the ride
Get used to all this unpredictability
Sounds like life

And remember, there are LOTS of people out there who are dealing with a things a whole lot worse than the little uncertainties of our lives, think for a moment of the people in Haiti, who have lost everything, entire cities have been wiped out, friends and loved ones are injured, missing and dead, and the things that we take for granted every day, like food and water are virtually non-existent.  So, tomorrow, instead of complaining about the comparatively miniscule problems of my life, I am going to sing this song to myself and suck it up!

Sounds like life to me, it ain't no fantasy
It's just a common case of everyday reality
Man, I know it's tough but you've gotta suck it up
To hear you talk, you're caught up in some tragedy
Sounds like life to me

Side note:  For those of you who have heard the song or read all of the lyrics, could you please explain to me if Johnny Ray fell of the wagon, shouldn't his friend be getting him to STOP drinking, not ordering him another drink???
